What type of container do you really need?
When you are searching for the right shipping container, there are a few factors you may want to weigh so that you are getting your bang for your buck!
The first type of shipping container is called a Wind and Water Tight Container (WWT). These are no longer certified for international shipping but still provide a secure, dry, and are completely sealed. They are completely inspected to ensure they are completely sealed against wind and rain. These units often will show more signs of wear such as; surface rust, dents, or cosmetic imperfections. WWT containers are ideal for secure on-site storage of tools, equipment, furniture, and other materials. These are the most cost-effective and durable storage solution.
The next type or grade, are called cargo worthy used (CW). These units are inspected and certified to meet international shipping standards. This means they are structurally sound, weather-tight, and suitable for ocean transport. These are free from major corrosion, dents, or warping that would affect performance. While these units may show cosmetic wear, surface rust, or minor repairs from previous service, they have passed international inspection verifying they are fit to safely carry cargo in international trade. Cargo Worthy units are ideal for export shipping, secure storage, or conversion projects where a structurally sound and certified unit is required.
The next grade above Cargo Worthy is what’s called an IICL unit. These are used containers but maintained to the highest industry standard for global shipping. These units meet or exceed the inspection and repair criteria, ensuring that each unit is structurally sound, wind and water tight, and in overall excellent condition. These units show minimal wear compared to the cargo worthy or wind and water tight units. These typically have straight panels, solid flooring, fully functional doors, and intact door gaskets. These are highly valued for storage and modification projects where appearance and structural integrity are imperative,
The next and final grade are called One Trip New Containers. These are new containers that are manufactured overseas and used only once to ship cargo. These are the highest-quality condition available in the used container market. These are built using Corten steel for superior strength and corrosion resistance. These feature marine-grade plywood or bamboo flooring, secure lockable double doors, and rubber door gaskets to ensure they are completely wind and water tight. These containers typically have minimal handling marks, no rust or dents, and are clean, structurally perfect, and ready for immediate use.
